From Kashitu to Buikwe

In 2024, as part of the construction season in Kashitu, we experienced a significant milestone in our project together—the construction of the second building of the secondary school campus, specifically a family house for teachers. It was also the first masonry building within the entire project, where theoretical designs from drawings were transformed into a real structure for the first time. During the construction, important technical experience was gained using our interlocking unfired earth bricks with a 5% cement admixture, which for the first time were not used merely as infill masonry but became part of the vertical load-bearing structures. This shift was crucial not only from a technological standpoint but also for the further development of the entire construction system.

The entire construction was guided by site manager Michal, who, through practical reports, brought the daily reality of working in a demanding environment closer to us. His experience and ability to translate the construction process into an understandable format helped bring the project closer to the general public. Today, we are pleased to follow up on this milestone with another step. This year, Michal is leveraging his experience from Kashitu to lead the construction of a new clinic in the rural region of Buikwe, Uganda. The project is part of the long-term activities of the Ssuubo endowment fund and brings a direct impact to an area where such infrastructure is vital for the local community. The experience gained during the Kashitu project does not remain confined to a single construction season; instead, it naturally transfers to other projects with real social impact. At the same time, the actual construction of the Kashitu Secondary School campus continues, with each completed stage bringing the entire project closer to its goal.
