Last days at the construction site
What did the last days on the construction site look like? Flange plates anchoring the roof truss were installed, the frame for the clerestory windows was prepared, and the individual sections of the perimeter walls were gradually completed. The walls were finished all the way to the roof, and the window sills were cast in situ.
A major part of the work also involved water and the surroundings of the building. The water supply and waste pipe for the washbasin were prepared, landscaping was carried out, and final cleaning took place. In the meantime, Mr Phiri continued welding the windows, which were then painted.
The work also included drainage pipes and soakaway pits, as well as the installation of a wire fence around the entire site. At the same time, composting boxes were completed, which will be an important part of the future system for waste management and the production of natural fertilizer.
Composting toilets are nearing completion and the deadline for submitting the documentation is approaching.
Practical toilet care
An important part of the last few days was also a Sanitation Club training focused on disinfecting composting toilets. It did not stop at theory. Club members practically tried out the entire procedure themselves, and together we also addressed the logistics of providing the necessary cleaning and protective equipment.
These practical skills will be crucial for the future operation of the Sanitation Club. The aim is for local residents to have not only the necessary equipment, but above all the knowledge and experience to take proper and safe care of the toilets.
Care for technology and shared moments
In addition to construction work, the team also focused on the maintenance of photovoltaic panels at the carpentry workshop, which were installed last year in cooperation with the ČEZ Group as part of the implementation of the first photovoltaic power plant on campus. The energy produced is now successfully used both for practical teaching in the workshops and during the construction season. Even such seemingly small tasks are important for the reliable functioning of the local infrastructure.
The last day on the construction site ended with a shared lunch. In the evening, a farewell campfire followed, which turned into a beautiful gathering with the children. There was singing, dancing, and everyone enjoyed the last moments together.
The construction work ended there, but the most important thing remains – everything that was built, prepared, and learned together will continue to serve the people of Kashitu. That is where every hour of work finds its true meaning.
Training women and work in the workshops
Alongside the construction work, education and support for local residents also continued. A marketing training for women took place, during which they gained practical experience in product presentation, customer communication, and promotion. The team was also involved in the activities of local workshops, where production continued and practical skills were further developed.

Practical training is an important part of the project, and thanks to the long-term support of Haberkorn, it can be developed systematically. It is one of the activities that are revisited every year and that help develop skills needed not only for successful entrepreneurship, but also for the effective management of a future school.
