Maker Faire Brno 2026: When Sustainability Meets Creativity

28/10/2026

At this year's Maker Faire Brno 2026, we presented the Kashitu School project, giving visitors a closer look at how we connect education, local craftsmanship, and sustainable solutions in Zambia. Our booth offered not only stories about the project but also the chance to try out some of the methods firsthand. And there were truly plenty of interested visitors, especially among the young enthusiasts!

From Clay to New School Spaces

A major attraction was our brick-making machine, which allowed visitors to try making unburned bricks. Children and adults alike eagerly dove into work, discovering how prepared mixture transforms into building material. We use precisely these bricks to build the school campus in Kashitu, where facilities for the local children's future education are gradually taking shape.

For us, brick-making means much more than just building itself. It is also a way to utilize local natural materials, develop practical skills, and involve the community in constructing their own facilities. At Maker Faire, we could thus demonstrate how a simple technology translates into concrete work thousands of kilometers away.

Composting Toilets in Practice

We also introduced our composting toilets, which are part of a broader effort to improve hygiene conditions in Kashitu. Visitors could learn how they work and discover how sanitation can be viewed differently than through traditional flush toilets. In an environment where water is a precious resource, this approach offers interesting possibilities. The toilet project is also followed by work on composting facilities and finding ways to safely utilize the obtained nutrients in agriculture. Thus, we connect hygiene, environmental protection, and support for local farmers. It is not just about the technology itself, but also about education and finding solutions that will function long-term in local conditions.

When Learning Becomes an Experience

The greatest joy for us was the children's interest, curiosity, and eagerness to get involved. At the brick-making machine, young builders took turns wanting to try production and see how the entire process works. The very opportunity to learn through firsthand experience shows that technology, craftsmanship, and sustainability can be both understandable and fun. We thank everyone who stopped by our booth, created things with us, and took an interest in what we are developing in Kashitu together with the local community. For us, Maker Faire was an opportunity to share experiences from a project that connects school construction with practical solutions for everyday life. We are taking home many pleasant meetings from Brno and the joy of being able to introduce our work to more people. And also a reminder that sometimes a little clay, a simple tool, and curiosity are enough to turn complex topics into something a person truly remembers.
