Sustainable Development Week

Every year between September 20 and 26, the ESDN (European Sustainable Development Network), one of the EU initiatives, organizes the Sustainable Development Week festival. During which, discussions, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, and other events are held with the aim of showing our care about the world we live in.

We didn't want to miss this opportunity either, so you could meet us at the Udrž UHK event organized by the University of Hradec Králové.

Thanks to the summer efforts of the Zambian community and our team, we were able to present new products from the workshops in Kashitu at the event! Visitors, not only from among the university students, could see how beehives and swarm boxes are made in Zambia, how women sew beekeeping suits and other original products directly from Zambia.

Of course, our popular "brick maker" was also there, thanks to which we were able to introduce the basic building block of our houses to those interested.

Lecture at Palacký University in Olomouc

Just before the end of September, Igor managed to organize an interactive lecture at the Faculty of Science of Palacký University in Olomouc. The discussion was divided into four modules.

The first part focused on an introduction to development issues and attempted to answer the question of why countries provide development aid and what the term "developing country" actually means. To ensure that the lecture wasn't just pure theory, we took part in an interactive game called "inequality walk," in which each participant received a card with a model persona from a developing country. Igor asked 15 questions, and if a participant could answer "yes" to any of them, they moved one step forward. The roles represented various socioeconomic groups, including vulnerable ones.

After reflection, we focused on the basic principles of development aid and the tools that help countries grow. The example of Zambia, inspired by the work of W. Easterly, provided us with a concrete illustration. In the final part, Igor presented how community-to-community projects and highly localized initiatives can have an impact on the local community beyond the construction itself. We also presented our economic model for honey management and our plans for the future.

Another event this fall where you can meet us is Maker Faire in Brno, so we look forward to seeing you there at our stand.
